A bigger and better show of Scotch Mules, saw Iain Minto (Minty) win his first ever Championship here with an extremely popular winner.

Taking the tri-colour for his 300-Blackie ewe flock, which is all crossed to a Blue at Townhead, Dolphinton, was a home-bred two-crop ewe by a home-bred son of Midlock legend, out of a Sweetshawhead-bred ewe bought at Lanark.  Shown by Neil Laing, following Iain’s recent operation on his back, she was champion at Peebles as a ewe lamb.  She was then sold to George Allan privately who scooped the inter-breed sheep title at Coylton and the Mule honours at Fenwick and Muirkirk with her as a Gimmer, before Iain bought her back later that year. He hopes to show her at the Scotch Mule’s first national show to celebrate the 25th Anniversary at Dumfries this year.

Taking the Blue & White ribbons was a previously unshown home-bred gimmer from Andrew Warnock, Dreva, Broughton, Biggar.  She is by a home-bred Blue tup retained for breeding by Midlock sire and out of a home-bred Blackie, one of 400at Dreva which produces 200 Scotch Mule ewe lambs sold at St Boswells every year.
