Royal Highland Show 2015

For the second time in three years, the winner from the strongest section the Ewe lambs - which this time attracted no fewer than 33 entries - went on to secure the overall championship.

Having won the same award here in 2013, Billy and Gavin Kerr, Sauchrie Mains, Maybole, this time lifted the supreme with a March-born ewe lamb that was also placed at the recent Straiton Show. She is by a home-bred tup retained for breeding by a £4200 D4 Midlock ram, bought at Hawes, and out of a home-bred Sauchrie Mains Ewe.

Midlock-bred sheep lifted the top two tickets in the ewes and the gimmers.  The reserve overall was the lead gimmer from Jardine Paterson and Gavin Donald, Craigview, Sandford who regularly buy in top ewe lambs to turn over the following year as gimmers at various markets.

Their leader, a Midlock-bred female bought at St Boswells in the champion pen of 50 for £155 is by a Midlock-bred son of the C63 Midlock and out of a Midlock-bred Ewe.  She was on her first outing since the sale.

Leading the Ewe section was the best from Mrs Kathryn Dun, Gilston Cottage, Heriot.  A daughter of the B4 Tanhouse Tup, out of a Midlock-bred Ewe.  She was bought privately from the Wights.
